「To infinity and beyond」巴斯光年上太空 [附圖]

發現號(Discovery)太空梭將返回地球，同時戴回一名小旅客，他是「玩具總動員」(Toy Story)的電影明星巴斯光年(Buzz Lightyear)；而他已創下停留太空軌道最久紀錄。

　　這尊30公分高的動畫玩偶，2008年5月隨著發現號發射進入軌道，在國際太空站(International Space Station)上停留超過1年的時間。這是屬於教導兒童太空知識教育計畫的一部份。

　　巴斯光年8日離開國際太空站回到發現號，開始返回地球的行程，預定10日降落佛羅里達州。

　　發現號太空梭在完成使用機器人手臂和高解析度攝影機檢查防熱罩後，已開始返回地球。防熱罩是用來保護太空梭在高速進入地球大氣層時免於解體。

　　巴斯光年是電影「玩具總動員」的動畫人物，他有個口頭禪「飛向宇宙，浩瀚無垠」(To infinity and beyond)，但即使是它自己，可能都會對歷經如此遠的旅程感到驚訝。

Buzz Lightyear, NASA and Disney came full circle on May 31, 2008, when a 12-inch Buzz Lightyear figure traveled on the Space Shuttle Discovery to the International Space Station, where it spent several months, in part to celebrate the opening of the Toy Story Mania attraction. In a touching sendoff on launch day, Buzz"s pal Woody was on hand to wave goodbye to his Space Ranger friend as he blasted off to infinity and beyond.
