Marvel’s Secret Invasion Is Already Fixing 2 Major MCU Complaints

The official trailer for Marvel's Secret invasion proves that the upcoming Disney+ show is already fixing two major MCU complaints of recent years. Since Avengers: Endgame was released in 2019, critical reception to the MCU has been divisive, to say the least. While films like Spider-Man: No Way Home and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings have been almost unanimously liked, others such as Thor: Love and Thunder and Phase 5's opener Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania have been more mixed.
That being said, Secret Invasion is set to be the first Disney+ series of the MCU's Phase 5. With the official trailer for Marvel's Secret Invasion, the giant comic book crossover event looks to have switched tones to a much more serious, intrigue-based political thriller akin to Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Through this switch in tone, Secret Invasion looks to be fixing two major MCU issues that have plagued the studio's releases since Avengers: Endgame.
Secret Invasion Has A Serious Tone (& It's Consistent) The most obvious element shown in Secret Invasion's trailer is its tone. The show has an incredibly serious, gritty feel that harkens back to the work of the Russo Brothers on Captain America 2 & 3. From the grounded, espionage-style action to the surprising lack of jarring comedic moments in the trailer, Secret Invasion looks to be fixing the MCU's biggest inconsistency of late.
Marvel's projects in recent years have been divisive in part due to the inconsistent tones of each project. The likes of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law and Thor: Love and Thunder were comical to the point where they almost felt like spoofs of a Marvel property. Even some of the more serious stories, like Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, seemed more focused on providing humorous moments that undercut the serious elements unnecessarily. With Secret Invasion, though, the tone seems serious and consistent, at least based on the official trailer for the show.
Secret Invasion’s Story Promises To Have Wider MCU Impact Another MCU problem that was largely attributed to Phase 4 was its lack of interconnectivity. For the most part, Phase 4 lacked any real direction in terms of building up to some kind of event. It was the first Phase of the MCU without an Avengers movie or something similar to reiterate where the overarching story was going, leading many to think the stories felt somewhat inconsequential. With Secret Invasion, this does not look to be the case, especially given the lead-off from Captain Marvel.
