Why Thomas Jane Was Recast As The Punisher After The 2004 Movie

Thomas Jane portrayed Frank Castle in Jonathan Hensleigh's The Punisher, but he would subsequently be succeeded not once but twice. The Punisher has had a curious history his live-action adaptations compared to most other Marvel characters, first being played by Dolph Lundgren in 1989's The Punisher. Jane would later assume role in 2004's The Punisher, which was a moderate success and set up Castle's continued vigilante tale in The Punisher 2.
However, behind-the-scenes issues ultimately led both Hensleigh and Jane to depart The Punisher franchise, with Frank Castle being rebooted in 2008's Punisher: War Zone. Jane's portrayal of Frank Castle was generally well-received, which made his departure quite unfortunate, though he would later be seen in the role again in the 2015 short film Punisher: Dirty Laundry. Here is why Thomas Jane ultimately departed from The Punisher movie franchise.
