Luke Skywalker"s New Space Suit Is Star Wars If It Was Made in the "60s

Warning! SPOILERS ahead for Star Wars #32Luke Skywalker has a new space suit, and its origins may lie in the very inspirations for Star Wars itself. Appearing in the pages of the recently-released Star Wars #32, Luke’s new get-up recalls the jetpacks and bubble helmets of the 1960s Space Age.
Classic sci-fi has always been a part of Star Wars’ DNA. When creating his epic space saga, George Lucas drew inspiration from classic film serials like Commando Cody and Flash Gordon, all of which promised alien worlds filled with danger, excitement and jetpacks. This influence is perhaps felt the most in Ralph McQuarrie’s original concept paintings, which perfectly capture the old world, art deco feel of classic science fiction paperbacks.
