Disney recently released
The Marvels budget, revealing it to be the most expensive non-Avengers Marvel Cinematic Universe movie yet. Captain Marvel may be poised to take on a more central role in the new Avengers movies, making her second non-Avengers outing pretty pivotal. It won't be a solo endeavor either, given that Danvers will be sharing the screen with two future Avengers, Monica Rambeau and Kamala Khan, which may go some way to explaining why Disney has piled so much into the project.
According to Forbes, The Marvels' budget was disclosed by Disney as part of their company filings on Sept. 19. The filings showed that the studio spent $274.8 million on making the movie up until September 2022. Following a $50 million subsidy from the UK government, this means that The Marvels will need to gross $439.6 million to break-even. According to The Numbers, this makes The Marvels the fourth most expensive MCU movie, placing it within $30 million of Avengers: Infinity War, and making it pricier than The Avengers. Below are the top 10 most expensive MCU movies that have released (excluding The Marvels).
