Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3"s 12 Biggest Spoilers & Reveals
Warning: SPOILERS for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 ahead!
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 packs many surprises as the original team face their last adventure together. Although the MCU's Guardians of the Galaxy first assembled as an unlikely team of space outlaws, they stuck together through several universal threats and became a family. After fighting Ronan, Ego, and Thanos and recruiting Nebula, Mantis, Kraglin, and Cosmo, the Guardians made themselves at home in Knowhere, where they planned to stay indefinitely. However, Adam Warlock and the High Evolutionary changed their plans.
It has been known that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was going to be the end of the Guardians' franchise for a while, but how the team was going to say goodbye had remained a mystery. Multiple deaths or an irreparable break-up had been likely possibilities, as they would have signified a definitive way to end the Guardians forever. However, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 takes an unexpected approach with the team's farewell and delivers various shocking reveals by the end of the movie.
12 None Of The Guardians Of The Galaxy Team Members Die
None of the Guardians of the Galaxy's highly speculated deaths in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 happen, and all the main members of the team live to see another day after defeating Chukwudi Iwuji's villain the High Evolutionary. The Guardians find a way to save Rocket Raccoon from the wounds Adam Warlock inflicted on him, Groot regrows his body faster than his predecessor, Drax survives the shots he received at OrgoCorp, and Adam Warlock redeems himself by saving Star-Lord from freezing to death in outer space. On top of that, the Guardians successfully rescue the High Evolutionary's test subjects, including the animals the villain used to create anthropomorphic creatures like Rocket Raccoon.
11 The Original Guardians of the Galaxy Team Splits Up
While all the Guardians of the Galaxy survive the events of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, the team still comes to an end, as Rocket Raccoon, Groot, Mantis, Star-Lord, and Gamora part ways. A now mature Star-Lord takes the initiative by traveling to Earth in order to reunite with his grandfather, while Mantis leaves to pursue her own adventures, and Rocket Raccoon becomes the leader of the new Guardians of the Galaxy. Meanwhile, Drax stays in Knowhere to protect his new children with the support of Nebula, Cosmo, Kraglin, and with the unlikely help of a redeemed Adam Warlock.
10 Star-Lord Returns To Earth And Makes Rocket The Guardians' Leader
When Star-Lord announces that he's going to Earth, Rocket Raccoon wonders what will happen with the Guardians of the Galaxy. Having found out about Rocket's backstory and knowing how courageous Rocket was even before founding the team, Star-Lord doesn't hesitate to name him the new leader. The Guardians agree unanimously, and Rocket accepts his new role. In Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3's post-credits scene, Rocket Raccoon is already leading a new team of Guardians.
9 Gamora Has A New Life With The Ravagers
Star-Lord's attempts to rekindle his love with Gamora's new multiversal variant are unsuccessful throughout most of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, but his love for his friends and his self-sacrifice cause Gamora to acquire a great respect for him. Although she ultimately begins to understand why the original Gamora had feelings for Star-Lord, she makes it clear to him that she's different and leaves with those she considers her family after spending time with them between the events of Avengers: Endgame and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Sylvester Stallone's Stakar Ogord and the rest of the Ravagers welcome her home and continue with their own adventures with her.
8 Nebula Becomes The New Leader Of Knowhere
Just like her friends, Nebula decides to pursue her own goals at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. As Star-Lord, Mantis, Gamora, Rocket, and Groot go their own ways, Nebula chooses to protect Knowhere and its inhabitants, which she considers her new people. This allows Nebula to leave behind the psychological pain Thanos had inflicted on her and continue to grow as a person despite the Guardians' absence. Drax, Cosmo, Kraglin, and Adam Warlock are also there to help and support her.
7 Drax Becomes A Father Again - Sort Of
Drax the Destroyer never got to exact personal revenge for his wife and daughter's deaths, but he now receives a fitting compensation. Drax is the only Guardian who can communicate with the High Evolutionary's test subjects due to his understanding of their language. He bonds with one particular little girl, Phyla, who convinces him to become a father figure to Knowhere's new inhabitants. Although Drax's daughter in Marvel Comics is originally the Guardian of the Galaxy Moondragon, the MCU takes a different approach and adapts the cosmic hero Phyla-Vell into Drax's new adoptive daughter, who joins Rocket Raccoon's new team in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3's post-credits scene.
