The long-running Arrowverse series begins its final run with this episode, which is the first chapter of a four-part finale. Little has been said about the story beyond it bringing back multiple villains from across the series' history, promising an epic ending to one of the most popular superhero shows of all time.
Subtitled "Reunions," The Flash season 9, episode 1, "A New World, Part 1," focused on Barry Allen as he was pulled across time by an unknown enemy. Trapped in the year 2000 with his connection to the Speed Force severed and running on reduced power, Barry had to fight both this new foe and the Reverse-Flash Eobard Thawne, as he attempted to kill Barry as a child. While this battle had been foreshadowed since the first episode of The Flash, the episode was a tense one, given Barry's weakened state. It was also filled with numerous nods to the comics and earlier episodes of The Flash.
