James Gunn’s Weirdest Guardians of the Galaxy Decision From 2014 Now Makes Total Sense

Warning! Spoilers ahead for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. After almost a decade, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 finally pays off James Gunn's weirdest creative decision from the 2014 film. On the heels of the Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase 1's success, Marvel Studios opted to make bolder choices, including further opening up the cosmic pocket of the franchise via the original Guardians of the Galaxy. Despite the skepticism from naysayers, the movie became both a critical and mass success for Marvel Studios. Most importantly, it debuted the rag-tag cosmic heroes who immediately became fan favorites.
Gunn closes out his MCU trilogy with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Despite its delay amid various reasons, the threequel has always been meant to finish the story he started in 2014. No major character dies in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, but it doesn't mean it isn't emotional. Aside from marking the end of the era for the original roster of the Guardians of the Galaxy, it also tackles Rocket Raccoon's long-kept origins story. In light of that, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 the blockbuster finally answers one lingering mystery about a specific decision that Gunn made in the 2014 movie.
