The period of Star Wars between the prequel and original trilogies is called the Dark Times for a reason. Culminating with Order 66 and the Jedi Purge, Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith ends with the rise of the Empire from the ashes of the corrupted Republic. What follows is a period of galactic oppression lasting for almost two decades before the start of the original trilogy and the destruction of the Death Star in A New Hope.
