  • The cuts highlighted the misguided approach to connecting the DCEU, as random Superman appearances and strange moments became evident.
Ben Affleck's Batman was cut from several DCEU projects, highlighting a key element in the downfall of Warner Bros.' live-action superhero franchise. Ben Affleck debuted as Bruce Wayne, a.k.a. Batman, in 2016's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, portraying the Dark Knight in the Zack Snyder-led film opposite Henry Cavill's Superman. Batman was integral in forming the DCEU's Justice League team, and became a staunch ally and mentor to several other heroes. However, with DC Studios' new DC Universe about to kick-off in 2024, it's become even more evident just how much the DCEU wasted Ben Affleck's Caped Crusader, despite being a cornerstone of Warner Bros.' faltering franchise.
Batman was introduced into DC Comics back in 1939's Detective Comics #27, making him one of DC's longest-running and most prevalent heroes. The Dark Knight has been adapted into live-action several times, but it was up to Ben Affleck to bring the billionaire vigilante to life in the DCEU. After appearing in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Affleck made an uncredited appearance in 2016's Suicide Squad before bringing the titular team together in 2017's Justice League. Since then, however, Affleck was all but forgotten, with only a cameo appearance from Affleck's Batman in 2023's disappointing The Flash to mark the end of his DCEU career.
