What"s Going On With The First Superman Trailer?
Superman is set to launch the live-action side of the new DC Universe in 2025, and it is looking more and more likely that the first trailer for the film will be released very soon. With new updates having been provided, and with more DCU movies and shows being announced soon, the shape of the universe is finally beginning to come into focus. David Corenswet"s turn as the Man of Steel is eagerly anticipated, and the trailer, confirmed to be completed, will give audiences their first look at the hero in action shortly.
The DCU release schedule will begin with Creature Commandos, but the first live-action project in the new franchise will be the 2025 Superman movie.
The shape of the cinematic universe is set to be unique, with video games, animation, and live-action film all crossing over. Following James Gunn"s successful work in the MCU and in the DCEU timeline, it seems that the filmmaker, along with his co-CEO Peter Safran, have a very clear idea of what their universe is, which is set to be explained in the impending Superman trailer.
The First Superman Trailer Is The First Huge DCU Milestone The New Trailer Will Give Audiences Their First Look At This New Universe Close With the state of the DC brand, it is important that this new imagining of the universe be well-received. This trailer is the first look at the new universe, but it follows a series of box-office failures of DC"s lowest grossing films including The Flash, Blue Beetle, Joker: Folie à Deux, and Shazam! Fury of the Gods.
The new film will have to differentiate itself significantly from these previous franchise entries in order to entice casual audiences. Following this, the trailer needs to be amazing, and the references that have been made to it thus far suggest it might be.
Actor Frank Grillo, who voices Rick Flag Sr. in Creature Commandos, has revealed he is among the few who have already seen the trailer, and he has given it high praise. In an interview with Collider, he discussed this preview, stating,
"I’m not joking, and I’m not blowing this out of proportion, my skin was hot and I had goosebumps." While this is certainly a high bar for a trailer to live up to, it cannot be denied that there is much riding on this film and even its trailer. The DCU will need to successfully entice audiences as quickly as possible.
What James Gunn Has Said About Superman's First Trailer Release James Gunn Has Indicated That The Trailer Is Done But Has Not Provided A Date For Release Close James Gunn has provided Superman trailer updates in the past months, beginning with a panel at New York Comic Con, where the director noted:
"It won"t be too long until we see a trailer, but it"s also not going to be too soon." These comments, along with Gunn confirming that trailer has been finished, and is on his hard drive, speak to a release in the coming months. Most of Gunn"s projects have released their first trailer 5-6 months before the release of the film, which could result in a first look during the Super Bowl.
Trailer marketing is a difficult thing to reduce down to a formula, as
in the past, some trailers have been released a year or longer before the film itself. There are many perfect dates for the Superman trailer to release that highlight the filmic legacy of the hero, although this release needs to be considered from a marketing perspective. While a first look during the launch of Creature Commandos on December 5 or CCXP Brazil on December 4 are possible, it is unclear if either would be the right move, or if they would be showing too much too soon.
James Gunn Has Offered Another Major Superman Trailer Update The Trailer Seems To Have Received A Number Of Cuts Close On Threads, director James Gunn was asked about the cut of the trailer and the oversight involved.
The director was recently queried about the studio requesting multiple cuts of the trailer, and if there was truth to rumors that the team was told to "make it better". Gunn explained that the studio requesting for the trailer to be better, in this case, would only be him, as co-CEO of DC studios, and that the trailer is being built out to align with the proper creative vision for the film.
Post by @jamesgunn View on Threads Fortunately, none of this actually seems to be cause for worry, as Gunn assured that this same process was what was followed with the Guardians of the Galaxy films.
The filmmaker is creatively very hands-on with his films, and it is comforting to see how much he seems to care about his releases. While there is certainly pressure on the Superman film, these comments show how much creative freedom Gunn and Safran are being given with DC Studios, which will hopefully produce the best possible trailer.
