I’m Fascinated To See How DC’s Newest Superman Show Handles Totally Revealing His Secret Identity With 3 Episodes Left In The Series
Superman & Lois has three episodes left to explore the truly colossal plot point of Clark Kent revealing he is Superman to the general public, and I"m fascinated to see how the DC show handles such a major storyline in this time. I"ve been consistently surprised by the wide array of ways the series has changed the lives of Superman & Lois season 4"s cast of characters, including Superman getting his heart ripped out, Jonathan getting powers, and Doomsday seemingly being removed as a threat via Lois" heartfelt confrontation with him.
However, without a shadow of a doubt, the moment in the show that has most surprised me was Clark Kent deciding to come forward to the world about being Superman in Superman & Lois season 4, episode 7 after talking with his family and deciding this was the best way forward. It"s a mind-blowing decision that sets Superman & Lois apart from the rest of the live-action Superman show roster in many ways, and a move that I"m thoroughly excited to see unfold as the final episodes are unveiled, though the limited time left adds some pressures to the show.
Superman & Lois Had Clark Kent Reveal He's Superman To The World Three Episodes Before The Show Ends
Superman & Lois season 4"s bombshell twist - wherein Clark Kent reveals he"s Superman to the world by going and doing a full broadcast interview about his double life and why he chose to operate in that manner - is one of the most significant events to have happened in the show"s entire run. So much of Superman & Lois has been centered around showing Clark"s life hiding his superhero secret, and him and Lois teaching their sons how to also manage this delicate balancing act. Now, this entire dynamic has shifted wildly.
The world discovering the civilian identity of their biggest superhero over a decade after he started operating as one is sure to change everything for countless people, including many that Clark himself has never met in his life. That said, it"s set to most alter things for everyone he"s close to, from his family to the people of Smallville, who grew up with Clark without ever discovering his secret. There are an astronomical number of ways this reveal could change lives, which makes it all the more noteworthy that this story has kicked off at this point in the show.
Superman & Lois' Secret Identity Storyline Is A Huge Plot For The Show To Handle In A Few Episodes Close Superman & Lois season 4, episode 10 is set to conclude the entire series after three years, ending The CW"s final show and marking the end of an iconic era for DC. As such,
the show has three more episodes to explore the impact of Superman revealing he"s Clark Kent and all the benefits and ramifications of this call - for Clark himself, for all those near to him, and for the world at large. I"m excited to see how this unfolds, but also somewhat daunted by the timespan we actually have to see the payoff for this enormous decision.
Notably, this plot point will need to be balanced or merged in to pre-existing storylines the show also needs to focus on and tie up before it ends. Though for some of these - like Lex Luthor"s rivalry with Superman - doing so will be easier, a bonus challenge will come from ensuring these plots factor in the big change for the show, but aren"t totally overshadowed by it, since all the characters in the cast ideally want to have their own significant ending before everything comes to a close, especially for those we"ve spent over three years getting to know.
Superman & Lois' Secret Identity Story Is Set To Be A Fascinating Part Of Superman's Live-Action Legacy Close While there have been a wide variety of Superman shows over the course of the hero"s considerable history,
any plots in them centered around people finding out about the Man of Steel"s secret identity tended to keep things on a smaller scale. For series intended to run for several seasons, having individual characters find out about Superman"s secret over the course of the story inherently makes more sense - especially as having Clark Kent being Superman go public would be throwing this out of the window and opening a story door that is almost impossible to ever close or take back.
As such, Superman & Lois" final chapter of the story going all in with such a huge narrative decision is all the more significant. While this does risk raising the concerns and complaints that this type of storyline has generated when used in the comics, I think making sure
Superman & Lois season 4 closes on a truly momentous story point will almost definitely be worth the challenges it presents - especially since this ensures that the show holds a notable place when it comes to Superman"s on-screen legacy.
Superman & Lois season 4 airs new episodes on Monday nights at 8/7c on The CW.
