Deadpool & Wolverine finally debuted Channing Tatum"s Gambit in the MCU after the actor failed to get a solo movie off the ground with Fox, and now the actor has confirmed how this was a much better outcome. Gambit was just one of many cameos in Deadpool & Wolverine designed to drive fans wild, with his on-screen debut occurring alongside a collection of erstwhile Marvel movie heroes including Wesley Snipes" Blade, Jennifer Garner"s Elektra, and Dafne Keen"s X-23/Laura. While Tatum played up Gambit"s near-incomprehensible Cajun accent, he made a solid case for his aptitude in portraying live-action Gambit.
Channing Tatum made such a positive first impression, in fact, that rumors are now circulating that he will reprise the role in the future of the MCU. Whether Tatum will portray the MCU"s Gambit from hereon out, including within his own solo movie, remains to be seen - though it is even more likely that he will return in Avengers: Secret Wars. Tatum"s revelation is not surprising. Fox was famously averse to depicting comic-accurate costumes in its X-Men movies until much later in the franchise, which is something that Deadpool himself highlights in Deadpool & Wolverine. As the positive response to Gambit and Wolverine"s comic-accurate suits proved, however, this was an unfortunate design choice. It remains likely, therefore, that whatever Gambit would have worn in his solo movie would have been inferior to what was ultimately depicted in Deadpool & Wolverine.

This all points towards a successful future with the character - which the movie teased is likely to happen with Gambit"s post-credits scene, which shows Gambit smiling knowingly at the viewer as a portal opens behind him.
Furthermore, unlike half of the other resistance members, Gambit"s central role in Deadpool & Wolverine in place of other X-Men (aside from Wolverine, of course) has placed him at the forefront of the team. At this point, Tatum"s Gambit is actually the only X-Man to appear in the MCU who wasn"t reprising their role from Fox"s X-Men franchise. This makes Gambit the first MCU-original X-Man, which slots neatly into what is expected to be an all-new team when Marvel finally adapts the X-Men properly in the future.
