Deadpool & Wolverine’s Original Plan Would Have Copied 1 Brilliant Marvel Comics Storyline
One of the original plans for
Deadpool & Wolverine would have copied one of Deadpool"s most exciting and hilarious Marvel Comics storylines in the MCU. Following its July premiere, Deadpool & Wolverine finally hit Disney+ on November 12 alongside a behind the scenes look at the production of the beloved Phase 5 team-up movie. Assembled: The Making of Deadpool & Wolverine saw Shawn Levy, Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman and more reveal the hidden secrets of Deadpool & Wolverine, including some of the original plans for the mutant-filled project.
After Disney"s acquisition of 20th Century Fox was finalized in 2019, Ryan Reynolds met with Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige and suggested a number of ideas about how to bring Deadpool into the MCU. Among these original pitches was a low-budget road trip movie focused on Deadpool and Dopinder, a Rashomon-style team-up movie with Wolverine, and one that included a dance number to Elton John"s "I Guess That"s Why They Call It the Blues."
Deadpool & Wolverine was the final product, but another of these original ideas would have been perfect for the MCU.
Deadpool & Wolverine Almost Included An Exciting Deleted Scenes Extravaganza Deadpool Was Almost Revealed To Have Always Been In The MCU
In Assembled: The Making of Deadpool & Wolverine, Marvel Studios producer Wendy Jacobson revealed that, in
an early plan for Deadpool & Wolverine, the movie would have included a "deleted scenes extravaganza." This would have flashed back to pivotal moments in the MCU"s history to reveal that Deadpool had actually always been involved in these adventures, though had always been conveniently out of frame. This would have given credence to early theories that suggested Deadpool and Wolverine would visit past MCU events, but could have integrated Deadpool fully into the MCU.
Related 1 Cut Deadpool & Wolverine Variant Avoided Undermining Henry Cavill's Cameo Concept art has revealed one Wolverine variant who didn"t appear in Deadpool & Wolverine, and Henry Cavill"s Wolverine might be grateful for that.
It"s unclear exactly which events Deadpool & Wolverine"s deleted scenes extravaganza would have revisited, but this could have confirmed that Deadpool had been in the MCU since the very beginning. It would have been great to see Deadpool alongside the Avengers in New York, dealing with HYDRA in Washington DC, fighting Ultron in Sokovia, battling Thanos in Wakanda and trying to stop the rampage of the Scarlet Witch.
This could have even explained Deadpool & Wolverine"s hilarious Thor: The Dark World mention, while also harking back to one huge Deadpool storyline in Marvel Comics.
Deadpool & Wolverine’s Original Plan Would Have Copied Deadpool’s Secret Secret Wars Deadpool's Secret Secret Wars Released In 2015 In Marvel Comics Close Released in 2015 alongside the newer Secret Wars event, Marvel Comics" Deadpool"s Secret Secret Wars revealed that the Merc with a Mouth had been a crucial part of the original 1984 Secret Wars storyline, despite not being introduced to Marvel Comics until 1990.
Deadpool"s Secret Secret Wars revealed that Wade Wilson had also been brought to Battleworld by the Beyonder, though hadn"t been seen in any of the scenes of the original event. This would have been the perfect inspiration for the original plan for Deadpool & Wolverine"s deleted scenes extravaganza.
Deadpool"s Secret Secret Wars spanned four issues released between May and August 2015.
During Deadpool"s Secret Secret Wars,
Wade Wilson teamed up with Earth"s Mightiest Heroes against villains such as Kang the Conqueror, the Absorbing Man and Thunderball. He even suited up in Spider-Man"s black costume, later revealed to be the Symbiote Venom, and formed a romance with the alien healer Zsaji, who turned out to be the key to saving the heroes of 1984"s Secret Wars event. Deadpool & Wolverine could have subsequently implanted Deadpool into some of the MCU"s most pivotal moments, which could have been great for the Phase 5 movie.
Why Deadpool’s Deleted Scenes Extravaganza Would Have Been Great For Deadpool & Wolverine Deadpool & Wolverine's Original Plan Included Many More MCU Cameos
In the lead-up to Deadpool & Wolverine"s release, there was a great deal of discussion about how Marvel Studios would bring Deadpool into the MCU"s primary continuity. It came as a surprise to many that this didn"t happen at all, with Wade Wilson only making a brief appearance in Earth-616 in 2018 to interview for a spot on the Avengers team before returning home to Earth-10005.
It remains to be seen how Deadpool will be integrated into the MCU"s official continuity, and it seems the original plan for the Phase 5 movie would have accomplished this easily.

Deadpool & Wolverine"s deleted scenes extravaganza would have also increased the potential for some exciting cameo appearances in Deadpool & Wolverine. Cameos from Fox"s previous Marvel movies were thrilling to see, and
it was great to see Jon Favreau"s Happy Hogan, Wunmi Mosaku"s B-15, Chris Hemsworth"s Thor and the Hulk pop up in Deadpool & Wolverine, but even more connections to the heroes and villains of the MCU were almost established. This would have made Deadpool & Wolverine one of the most important MCU projects yet.
Deadpool’s Deleted Scenes Extravaganza Could Have Caused Some Confusion The Connection Between Fox's X-Men Franchise & The MCU Is Already Confusing
While it would have been fantastic to see all manner of MCU cameos in Deadpool & Wolverine, and a deleted scenes extravaganza could have brought Deadpool officially into the MCU, this would have also had downsides. Most notably,
the connection between the disparate timelines of Fox"s X-Men franchise and the MCU proper is already confusing, and a deleted scenes extravaganza would have only made this even worse. Ryan Reynolds" Deadpool began his career in Fox"s X-Men franchise with no connections to the MCU, so it would have been strange to have seen these links in Deadpool & Wolverine.

Earth-10005"s survival and Deadpool"s continued existence there at the end of Deadpool & Wolverine means that this universe and its heroes can be seen again in the MCU"s future.
This could prove crucial to Phase 6"s Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars, as an incursion could occur between Earth-616 and Earth-10005. Integrating Deadpool into the MCU"s history with a deleted scenes extravaganza would have made this impossible, impacting the future of the MCU, and making
Deadpool & Wolverine far more convoluted than it needed to be.
